A fantastic opportunity to acquire the historic Dunnyneill Islands, beautifully located on Strangford Lough, approximately 2.5 km off the coast of Killyleagh.
The islands, comprise of a larger and a smaller island linked by a causeway at low tide and, uniquely of all the islands in Strangford Lough, they are strategically located to command the narrows at the Lough’s mouth.
The main island is formed from a small drumlin with a boulder clay core. It is roughly D-shaped and rises to a height of circa 16 metres above sea level. The southern side of the island is defined by a steep cliff which faces towards the mouth of the Lough. The islands are now home to a range of Flora and Fauna.
Over the years, excavations have taken place on Dunnyneill Island and have revealed it was once used as a seventh century trading emporium frequented by merchants from as far afield as modern day Russia, Germany, Iceland and France.
This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of Irelands history on the shores of Strangford Lough.
