Conlig house situated on Little Clandeboye, although now demolished in 1850 was the residence of Captain William Perrie a Belfast ship owner. His son James Alexander Perrie emigrated to Canada and entered the timber shipping trade. Unfortunately he died and soon after his wife returned to Ulster with their two year old son William and took up residence with his grandfather at Conlig House; Little Clandeboye. William James Perrie was educated at RBAI and on leaving school became a gentleman apprentice to Harland & Wolff. After a stellar career in shipbuilding and politics he became chairman of Harland & Wolff in 1895 and he was the man behind the design concept of the great ships Olympic, Titanic and Britanic. William and his team of architects foresaw the potential for luxury Ocean going Cruise ships hence the Titanic was born At that that time 1912 Harland & Wolff was the largest shipyard in the world, and the man behind the concept /creation and construction spent his early childhood Conlig house Little Clandeboye. Conlig house changed ownership several times before becoming a hospital in 1930. It eventually became derelict and for safety reasons was demolished. The location of the house can still be seen although overgrown.


The property has extensive road frontage to Main Street, Conlig and rises upwards to the west adjoining Clandeboye Golf Club and housing an easterly aspect with views from the upper sections over North Down, the Ards Peninsula & Strangford Lough, the North Channel and on a clear day Scotland and beyond. Approx 40 acres is comprised of woodland and the remainder consists of pasture/meadow.

The meadow/pasture is on the lower section adjoining Main Street, Conlig and has been let for cutting of Hay/Silage with gateway access onto Main Street. The Northern Boundary adjoins the current stop line of the area plan with possible potential for development (subject to planning).
The woodland extends upwards towards the lead mines with the eastern part consisting of mixed deciduous trees such as Birch, Oak, Sycamore, Alder, Elm & Beech with a thick under storey of Rhododendron & Cherry Laurel. The upper or western part consists of mature and attractive woodland with the predominant species of Beech with elements of Spanish Chestnut, Scots Pine, Oak, Ash, Sycamore, Birch Hazel and Alder.

Although unmaintained the sale of this unique woodland offers potential for a variety of other uses (subject to planning approval) such as Adventure Park, Orienteering, Glamping, Mountain Bike Trails etc.
