Description

 WITH ABOUT 9.29 HECTARES / 23 ACRES

A splendid country house c. 1824 with Queen Anne origins, beautifully presented; with gracious reception rooms and fine views over its own parkland.

Dublin city centre via N11 – c. 22 miles.

Set in the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains amongst some of the finest scenery which the garden county has to offer, Monalin is approached via a sweeping avenue and enjoys an elevated yet sheltered position commanding views eastwards across rolling countryside to the Irish Sea, with Wales Snowdonia visible on a clear day.

The property is interspersed with specimen hardwood trees, and the boundaries fringed with mature timber.
The living accommodation comprises spacious reception rooms with marble chimney pieces and tall windows which combine formality with intimacy; spread over approximately c. 548 sq.m / 5,900sq.ft.

The out offices around the yard provide approximately c. 464 sq.m / 5,000 sq.ft and suits accommodation for bloodstock, farm animals and machinery, or to indulge a hobby or home-industry. In all, three looseboxes, two pony boxes, haggard with horse shelter; open-fronted machinery shed.

The grounds include swathes of bluebells, an ancient loveseat, walled garden with hard tennis court and greenhouse.

This is a wonderful area in which to live and rear a family. Leisure pursuits include excellent rides with woods above the house within easy hacking distance; athletics and sports-clubs, world class golf at nearby Druids Glen, and other local courses; also lake fishing, shore angling, sailing and hunting. Schools at primary and secondary level are within easy reach, and commuters will appreciate proximity to the N11 and further north, the M50 link (the current owners’ early morning record to Dublin Airport is 36 minutes!). Greystones and Bray DART stations are within easy driving distance.

HISTORICAL NOTE:
The scene of conflict when fighting took place in the woods at the Battle of Newtownmountkennedy (where Wexford pikemen were finally held on their way to attack Dublin in 1798), Monalin was then gentrified in 1824 by the addition of an imposing Georgian style front which contains the two principal reception rooms and overhead bedrooms.

Since 1824 only three families – including the current owners – have lived in the house, whose gardens feature in a Victorian book on Wicklow Gardens.
