A delightful Georgian house, with generous and well-proportioned accommodation, commanding a magnificent position looking south over a wonderful coastal vista.
This unique property has undergone loving and continuing restoration, with the conservation works acknowledged by national awards. Some further works will be required to complete the restoration.
Scart House is a most attractive and substantial Georgian house which has undergone a sympathetic and continuing program of restoration over a number of years to preserve the building’s period integrity and many architectural features.
Built by William Jermyn in 1823, the estate was the birthplace of James Franklin Fuller, one of Ireland’s foremost Victorian architects who designed amongst many notable buildings, the Great Southern Hotels at Parknasilla and Kenmare, Ashford Castle in Mayo and Kylemore Abbey in Galway.
The house is a fine size with airy and well-lit accommodation with the wonderfully proportioned rooms arranged on two floors plus a spacious attic. Extending to some 500 sq metres (5,250 sq ft) – the property includes four reception rooms, six bedrooms and three bathrooms.
Scart House has an impressive approach via stone piers with original gates and a tree-lined drive. Steps rise to the fan-lighted entrance doorway, which is at first floor level in the recessed centre bay between gabled projections. The house has been re-slated using the original Valentia slates whilst new concrete floors have been installed to the lower ground floor together with a drainage system which rings the building.
