LOCATION
Clonlost House is located in the village of Rochfortbridge. Rochfortbridge has recently been by-passed by the new M4 motorway (Dublin - Galway Road), which will bring you to the M50 in 35 minutes.
DESCRIPTION
The property comprises of a former church building with a large extension to the rear. The church has been renovated to a very high standard over the last number of years, with conscientious restoration and use of space. All the church cornicing was restored and original windows retained. The modern extension has been constructed to blend into the Gothic style of the existing building and consequently there is well laid out bright accommodation which extends to c. 4,900 sq. ft.
There are many fantastic features throughout the whole property, both old and new. These include corniced ceilings, gothic casement windows with window surrounds, exposed brick walls, oak floors, and there is an impressive teak staircase with gothic decorative rails and banister.
The accommodation briefly comprises of a large living room, games room with bar, study, kitchen with dining area and living room and three spacious halls. There are three bedrooms in the main church, two with ensuite bathrooms and the master bedroom has views out a stunning church window. There are two further bedrooms, which are accessed via a separate staircase and again are both with their own ensuite bathrooms. At the top of the church tower is a small room, which is ideal to get away from it all.
The property, is situated off the main street of the village of Rochfortbridge and sits on a secluded walled site, which is on a height and surrounded by mature trees. The approach is through electronic gates along a tree lined avenue leading to the front of the church and around to the front door. To the rear there is a lawned garden, which is sheltered by mature beech, oak and sycamore trees. There is a large garage with double entrance door.
Please note that there is no graveyard attached to this property.
HISTORY
It is thought that the Clonlost Church dates back to the Mid 18th Century, and the date 1856 is inscribed on the entrance gates. The original bell from the bell tower is inscribed 1706 and was presented by Robert Rockford, Lord Belvedere of Belverdere House. This bell probably came from an older nearby church.
