THE BACKGROUND HISTORY
The property stands on land which made up part of the estate owned by the Vesey's (Viscount de Vesci) who together with the Packenhams (Earl of Longford) were the inheritors of the Monkstown Castle Estates of Archbishop Boyle. Thomas Vesci became 3rd Viscount de Vesci in 1855 and the property remained in his family until 1935. W. J. Vesey died in 1863.
ARCHITECTURAL STYLE
The architecture of the property features many hallmarks of the renowned Deane & Woodward style. The property is an amalgam of northern and southern gothic detailing. Venetian influences are strongly evident and are most manifest in the staircase window derived from fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, arcading at the Doge's Palace on Ca, Foscani. The property also features steep pitched roofs and tall chimney stacks and typical pierced Venetian detail in the windows with Caen stone gothic arches, balconettes and detailing. The typical style of Deane and Woodward is carried through to the interior which feature notching on internal joinery and architraves, fretted balustrades, stunning original tiled floors in the entrance hallways and strong marble fireplaces. The motif on the banisters is repeated on the marble fireplace in the main dining room and cornicing in the sitting room.
