Bellingham Castle, on 17 acres, is the focal point of the picturesque medieval village of Castlebellingham on the River Glyde, located between Drogheda and Dundalk and just minutes from the M1 Dublin - Belfast Motorway, making it extremely convenient for both cities. Formerly Gernonstown, this manorial village is largely the construction of the Bellingham family descendants of a captain in Cromwell's army who received a grant of the confiscated lands of the Gernons of Gernonstown in the 1650's. It is said that the armies of King William actually camped on the grounds of the castle the night before the Battle of the Boyne. The village includes a group of Widow's Almshouses, cottages and other dwelling houses constructed by the Bellingham family probably to the design of William Vitruvius Morrison, while the roadside crucifix was fashioned from a royal oak blown down in 1902.

Bellingham Castle Hotel
The entrance to the hotel is via a beautiful stone tower and gate lodge, built by Sir Henry Bellingham in 1880, and a long straight avenue flanked by tall broadleafs leads to the a large forecourt with ample parking and landscaped flowerbeds and shrubberies. The castle sits high above the River Glyde and stone steps lead to the water's edge and to a beautiful weir with footbridges and walkways. A millrace diverted from the river forms a long wooded island with a splendid weeping willow hanging over the weir. Sweeping lawns wrap around the castle and have been landscaped with herbaceous borders, cherry blossom trees and stud railing.
The wonderful ivy clad castle provides superb accommodation and banqueting facilities, and enjoys a distinguished reputation, extremely popular with wedding parties and large functions.
