Location

Situated outside of Kingscourt on the Meath/Cavan border this property enjoys a rural, peaceful setting and yet is by no means isolated; the town is less than 5km away and boasts a number of facilities including excellent local shops, bars, restaurants, library, several local schools, fire and garda stations and health centre.

This part of County Cavan is steeped in history and has long been considered one of the most picturesque towns in Ireland.  Founded by Mervyn Pratt and latter Rev. Joseph Pratt toward the end of the 18th Century the town derives its name from the fact that King James held court for one night at Cabra Castle on his way to the Battle of The Boyne is 1690.

The Church of the Immaculate Conception (RC Church) sits on a ridge high above the town and displays four stained glass windows by the renowned Irish artist Eve Hone who was chosen to depict the Last Supper in Eton College.

Opposite Cabra Castle, a former Norman Castle which is now a successful four star hotel set in beautiful grounds, can be found Dun an Rí Forest Park.  For anyone who enjoys walking or being close to nature there is no better place to visit; a truly beautiful place acquired by the Forest & Wildlife Services in 1959, it is home to stoat, hare, mink, rabbit and otter, as well as red and grey squirrel along the banks of the River Cabra.  A short list of the many items of interest to be seen in the park include The Wishing Well – an old Holy Well, Cromwell’s Bridge – a high arched bridge built during the Norman invasion of the 12th Century and Sarah’s Bridge – built 1801 in memory of Sarah Mount Morris who had married into the Pratt family.

Aside from walking, there is an excellent golf course closeby and fishing in many of the numerous lakes, the most notable being Greaghlone and Ervey.  Many sports clubs also ensure the sports enthusiast is never at a loss.

‘Kingspan’ is an Irish company with its headquarters in Kingscourt, they are presently the leaders in the insulation market in Ireland and provide employment to great numbers of people in Kingscourt and indeed throughout Ireland and Europe.

With so much on your doorstep there is hardly reason to travel further afield but for anyone wishing to do so the major towns of Navan, Ardee, Monaghan, Castleblayney and also Carrickmackross are not too far away.

Directions

From Dublin:
Travel to Navan on the N3.  At the 4th set of traffic lights in Navan turn right (crossing the bridge) and this will bring you onto Flowerhill.  Take the 2nd exit off the roundabout at the top of Flowerhill (landmark:  Round O Pub), and you are now on the Kingscourt Road.

Continue straight for c. 20km and you will enter the village of Nobber.  Travel straight through Nobber out the Kingscourt Road for c. ½km to the ‘V’ in the road.  Turn right and continue for 3·5km to the 2nd four road cross road, turn left, continue for c. 1km and the entrance to the property is 1st on left after school.
