TINODE THE HOUSE
(approximately 509 sq. metres / 5479 sq. ft.)
Tucked in away from the public road and surrounded by its own lands Tinode offers a rare opportunity to create a private residential estate less than 15 miles from the St. Stephens Green and enjoying a beautiful and serene setting with mountain and lake views. A long avenue lined with mature beech trees leads past an attractive cut stone gate lodge to the formal forecourt area at the front of the house. The avenue branches to give access from a side road and a secondary avenue, also off the N81, give alternative access to the back of the house and southern end of the farm.

Commanding an elevated position Tinode House is a handsome cut stone Victorian mansion house built about 1860 to the design of W.F. Calbeck, Architect for W.H.F. Cogan Esquire, a nationalist member of parliament for West Wicklow. The Dublin Builder publication observing in its July 1st, 1864 publication Tinode to be placed on an elevated position commanding an extensive prospect of the surrounding country, the adjacent grounds being tastefully laid out in terraces to suit the sloping nature of the site. A later sale brochure for an auction held on the February 24th, 1914 describing the residence to have every accommodation for a
gentlemans or noblemans family.

Originally comprising two and three stories over basement the mansion house was partially destroyed in 1922, having been extensively burned out in The Troubles. The Billard room, two adjoining bedrooms, the staff wing and coach houses with stables escaped the fire and remain today. Purchased by the Blake family in 1955 a long process of restoration commenced, which resulted in the majority of the original house being rebuilt and habitable by the early 1980s.
