Property Description
Dating back to 1845 this superb Gentleman's Residence with mature gardens including a large fish pond and lawned tennis court occupies a magnificent idyllic and tranquil situation on the edge of Londonderry in the townland of Ballyarnet. Whilst also being a short distance from the heart of the city the property is easily accessible to many other parts of the area and the Republic of Ireland.
The property has been solely occupied by the McCorkell Family since it was built in 1845 and it is the first time in its entire history that the property has been offered for sale.
ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY OF PROPERTY
This property was constructed in the era of the 'Arts and Crafts Movement' in the mid 18th Century which was an international design movement that originated in England. The movement spread to Ireland representing a key moment in the national cultural development, a visual counterfeit to the literary revival of the same time and it was a voice of Irish Nationalism.
It was instigated by artist and writer William Morris (1834-1896) and inspired by the writing of John Ruskin (1819-1900) and had its earliest and fullest development in the British Isles but spread to Europe and North America as a reaction to the impoverished state of the decorative arts and the conditions under which they were produced.
